Legendary cricket umpire Dickie Bird at the Magnus

Beaumond House Community Hospice hosted a Twenty20 Cricket Match and Family Fun Day on Sunday July 22 on the Magnus School playing field in Newark with VIP guest Dickie Bird OBE promoting his Dickie Bird Foundation, which gives sports grants to disadvantaged children under 18, writes Gillie Wilkinson.

Over 300 people enjoyed the sunshine and the Kids’ Mini Tournament in the morning – eight under-11 teams competing in a tournament won by Ransome and Marles under 11s.

The main match in the afternoon was between Newark R&M Select X1 and Beaumond House X1 including Ex-County and England players. The match was won by Beaumond House – just! (By one rather contrived run.)

The many attractions included an auction, prize draw, bouncy castle, various charity stalls, refreshments, free kids’ activities, BBQ, Maypole Brewery Real Ale, raffle, facepainting / tattoos, stocks and much more.
