It’s seven years since soulful, platinum-selling recording artist Andy “Voice of the People” Abraham was runner-up in The X Factor – and that result ushered in seven years of good luck as far as Andy is concerned.
Andy has released four studio albums and sold more than half a million copies. Now his touring show History of the Big Band arrives at Newark Palace Theatre on September 27, 2012 – and we have TWO TICKETS to give away, plus a Book/CD of Andy’s latest album, Remember When for the winner and a consolation prize of a Remember When CD for the runner-up.
Remember When is billed as “a passionate and intimate record showcasing two brand new tracks written with celebrated songwriter Eliot Kennedy and 10 cover versions of classic soul songs that have made Andy the man and the artist he is today.” It takes the form of a book with a CD inside – and lucky winners will be able to take their copies along on the night to be signed by the star of the show.
In 2011, Andy enjoyed a massively successful run in the hit West End musical Respect La Diva. This year Andy is again impressing theatre audiences around the country with his History of the Big Bands tour, which brings him to Newark Palace to pay tribute to the golden era of swing music. Backed by a magnificent 13-piece big band, Andy puts the soul back into swing by guiding the audience through the band leaders and big band vocalists that have influenced him throughout his career:
“This show pays tribute not only to the best Big Band music ever written, but some of the best music ever written full stop,” says Andy. “It’s such a privilege to be able to sing these numbers that were made famous by vocalists like Ella Fitzgerald, Sammy Davis Jr and Frank Sinatra. When you hear their amazing voices and the incredible rhythm and phrasing in the swing arrangements, it’s impossible not to just get up and dance!”
